About Doc Brown's Blues Band: Doc Brown's Blues Band or The Blues Allstars. Mark "Doc" Brown - Guitar & Vocals Mark ranks as one of Denver's finest most explosive talents. Mark has been playing the guitar for over forty years, soaking up music and styles like a sponge along the way. Born and raised in southeast Denver, Mark learned guitar from his older brothers, playing folk and gospel songs and singing high harmony. Before long, however, the Rock ’N’ Roll bug bit, and Mark played his first Rock ‘n’ Roll show when he was ten years old. The now legendary Brown Brothers Band of the early seventies featured Mark and his three brothers. Since than, Mark has played in popular bands based in Utah, New Mexico, and Connecticut, while also performing solo. He returned to Denver in 1989 and formed Otis T. and the Hammers, Denver’s premier Blues/Rock band of the early 90s. Mark is Denver's finest slide guitar practitioner, having learned the slide while still in junior high school. His vocals are equally masterful, as his three octave vocal range enables him to tackle a wide range of material and make it his own. His prowess on both electric and acoustic guitar is well known, and his resume includes stints with the Chicago-based Jimmy Johnson Blues Band and Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famers, The Coasters and The Drifters. Mark has performed with many of the areas top bands, including Sundance and the Men in Blues, Phantom Freeway, Little Mary, Theresa Lynn and Tracy Edwards. Mark joined forces with the Aces in November 1998 to pursue his love of the Blues. In 2003, Mark, along with Milt Miller and Gregg Wilson formed Doc Brown’s Blues Band, to keep the love alive. Milt Miller - Bass & Vocals Milt bought his first bass guitar at age 13 after noticing there were too many guitar players and not enough bass players. Milt started playing guitar at age 9, taking lessons from jazz great Stacy McGee of the famed Les brown Orchestra. Milt switched to electric bass and soon found the ability to lay down solid grooves with a drummer naturally. Milt spent his High School years performing with various Rock and Top 40 bands, but honed his skills while still in the school jazz band, learning to improvise jazz and blues progressions with the instructor. Out of school, Milt developed his skills, and credits "super funksters" Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins for giving him a new direction and attitude toward his bass playing. Combining traditional training and instinctive feel, Milt soon became very well versed in many types of music, especially blues, jazz and R&B. During the seventies, Milt spent his time doing session work in and around the Denver area, as well as several sessions for producer Norman Petty at the old Buddy Holly studios in Clovis, New Mexico. During the eighties, Milt met up with drummer Gregg Wilson to form the Gullable Rhythm Section, providing intensely tight grooves for numerous bands in the Denver area. As Milt puts it, "We worked really well together, and just kept doing it, band after band. Now, we still go out every night with the idea that we're going to have a blast, and when we do, it's very infectious". Mark Messenger - Drums, Percussion & Vocals From the midwest, where he was weaned on Blues, Rhythm and Blues, and Funk as well as the Classic Rock from the 60's and 70's. Mark has been playing drums for over 30years and has played for numerous bands including local favorites - "Deja Blu", "Phantom Freeway and the Bad Ass Horns" and "Semi Giant". When asked what he thinks makes music that’s worth listening to he replies, "To me it's all about the groove. If the bass and drums put a solid foundation down, the rest of the band can stretch out and really put the icing on the cake." About The Blues Allstars: Rick Davis - blues harp, Steve Mignano - guitar & vocals, Mike Wysocki - bass & vocals, David Brenowitz - drum & percussion A pro blues band out of Denver CO. The Blues Allstars are four of the best blues players in the area. All four members are veterans of elite regional blues bands, who have now joined together to form a killer collaboration that produces an electrifying blues and boogie show. The music bios of each member can be found at the band website (www.thebluesallstars.com). The Blues Allstars are the best players from The Roadhouse Joe Blues Band, The Afrosippi Band, The Reverend Hooch Band, and many others. Together, they produce a very memorable blues experience. Every Monday Ziggies presents Acoustic Anarchy Monday, hosted on most Monday's by Terry Gulley (Guitar, Vocals, Harmonica) with the music starting at 8pm.
About Terry Gulley: Terry Gulley has literally traveled the world with his acoustic guitar, harmonica and voice. Terry has been hosting the Monday acoustic open mic at Ziggies for the past three years and shows no signs of slowing down! When not playing at Ziggies on Mondays, Terry can often be found performing stage hand duties at Red Rocks Amphitheater as well as several other Denver venues. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1154986106#!/profile.php?id=100000120590786 Every Tuesday at Ziggies Reverend Hooch hosts the Rockin' Blues Jam. Reverend Hooch is Steve Mignano (Guitar & Vocals), Roc Eubanks (Bass & Vocals), and David Brenowitz (Drums & Percussion).
About Reverend Hooch:Steve Mignano - Guitar & Vocals, Roc Eubanks - Bass & Vocals, David Brenowitz - Drums & Percussion. Originally from Toledo OH, STEVE MIGNANO is among a handful of “young gun” guitarists that have traced the lineage of modern rock to classic rock, in turn developing a profound love and respect for the blues. When Steve was in high school, his father piqued his interest in the blues by giving him a gold-mine collection of vintage vinyls to mill through, among them East West by Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Super Session by Al Kooper/Stephen Stills/Michael Bloomfield, an anthology of Duane Allman’s contributions to the southern R&B circuit, and a compilation by the late Roy Buchanan – some of Steve’s all time favorite records to this day. After high school Steve studied at Musician's Institute under Scott Henderson and Keith Wyatt among others, synthesizing his blues and rock leanings with jazz and world music. He then toured the Midwest with Johnny Reed & The Houserockers for three years opening for national blues acts such as Larry McCray, Lady Sunshine and the Detroit Women of the Blues. Now based out of Denver CO, Steve's streamlined, soulful Les Paul sound can be heard in clubs all over the region with Reverend Hooch and also with a host of top-booked regional and national acts of all genres including the Ashley Buchart Band, Mountain Jam, and award-winning Native American violinist Arvel Bird. Studio credits include recording sessions with Chris Guillot at Cherry Sound Recording Studios and Christophe Eagleton of Eagleton Productions. “…Steve Mignano is a true 6-string gunslinger, the most talented musician I’ve met in Colorado. He knows the color of the ‘Blues’. He’s not just another clone of Stevie Ray Vaughan. At the young age of 26 years, he understands that playing with melody is just as important as demonstrating virtuosity – he makes his guitar ‘SING’.” -Lionel Royer, French photographer who has photographed BB King, Ray... Charles, Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, The Who, Albert King, Dizzie Gillespie, among others "This band is absolutely KILLING IT lately… they could be the next Rose Hill Drive. Think Pearl Jam meets Cross Canadian Ragweed meets Stevie Ray Vaughan… it’s utterly the best locally produced Americana rock I’ve heard in years. YOU’LL DIG IT. “ -Dutch Bretton Seyfarth, Westword Magazine (www.westword.com) "One of the best bands we've ever featured on the program, and one of my favorite bands in Denver. They had such a great stage sound that we barely needed to touch anything in post-production." -Brother Rob, Colorado Rock Productions (www.coloradorock.com) Born from the best elements of Denver’s club and blues circuits, Reverend Hooch is redefining the traditional blues/rock power trio with a rootsy, guttural edge that may just as easily have come from the deep south as the Rocky Mountains. The Hooch hits the stage with a fearlessly authentic signature sound that is as distilled as Tennessee whiskey, averaging nearly 200 live shows a year that an increasing number of fans are coming again and again to experience. This event is generally hosted by either Melanie Owen Padilla or Mostly Joe Hawkins (4th Wednesday). On occasion other musicians host this event, such as Michael Maurer, Michael Hornbuckle, John Goggin, Randall Dubis, and Daniel Patrevito among many other very talented musicians. About Melanie Owen Padilla: Melanie is a very busy musician with a diverse background in not only music, but theater as well. She is often the solo Featured Musician at Ziggies open jam on Wednesdays, she is also half of the duo, middleroad ~ which is an acoustic rock, pop and folk acoustic rock duo comprised of vocalist Emily Saunar and vocalist/guitar player Melanie Owen Padilla. They combine their talents and influences to write and perform songs of life, love, humor and storytelling. Emily and Melanie Owen Padilla met in 2005 while working at an alternative high school. Emily was the school secretary. Melanie worked in the classroom, but was also always a waitress as a second job. They started playing music together, and their first gig was playing for the school graduation. Thus, the waitress and the secretary began a band. Their influences come from all over the music spectrum, and they meet on the middleroad Cedar Avenue Blues Band ~ CABB ~ is another project Melanie is involved in, which often perform at Ziggies. Cedar Avenue Blues Band fuses old school with new vision for the blues. In May of 2010, lead guitar player John Weeks teamed up with singer/songwriter Melanie Owen Padilla to talk about starting a project... John's extensive background in the blues steered the course while Melanie took on the challenge of writing for the blues. Their original bass player had an enormous warehouse in which to rehearse, situated on the Platte River at Cedar Avenue. In March of 2011 CABB underwent a change of cast, and John & Mel were joined by the up-and-coming drummer Ryan Kurtz, and the ubiquitous Jay Ryan, bass player and musician about town. Together they are Cedar Avenue Blues Band, a taxi cabb careening through the streets of Blues history out onto the interstate of modern Blues music, fueled by sublime covers and smokin' originals, hot licks and scorching vocals. About Mostly Joe Hawkins: Joe was one of those kids who come into this life loving music, according to Joe and he goes on to say, "My parents noticed this and provided me with music lessons. After a period of experimenting (fumbling, actually), with clarinet and then trumpet, I found the instrument I love most: Guitar! Since that beginning I have had many brands and types of guitar, both electric and acoustic. I currently play a Martin HD35 acoustic. As any musician will tell you, it's a truly wonderful instrument. Starting out playing good old Rock & Roll, I eventually came to also love and perform Folk, Country, Bluegrass, and especially Blues. As Time goes on, my love for music is stronger than ever. I specialize in Rock, Country, Folk, and Blues- contemporary and originals- that give me the means to bring forth my deepest musical feeling - my "soul". Links: Facebook MySpace |
